Emblematic sites which are the basis of Chamonix's attraction and success.
These are all accessible by cable car or train. You needn't be a mountaineer to reach such hights ! But beware of mountain sickness if you have young children.
L'Aiguille du Midi (3842 m)
From the cable car at l' Aiguille du Midi (the highest in Europe), reach the four panoramic terraces to enjoy a 360 degree view of the French, Swiss, and Italian peaks. Right at the top, you can visit the « Vertical Lab ». Also, don't miss the brand new « Pas dans le vide » !
La Vallée Blanche (3842 m)
The longest ski descent in the world on unmarked, ungroomed and unsecured ground. 24 kilometers on a glacier from l'Aiguille du Midi to Chamonix. This route requires 4 to 6 hours (2800 m altitude change).
For those who are less sporty, the cable car at l'Aiguille du Midi will take you through la Vallée Blanche towards la pointe d'Helbronner and then Courmayeur (Italy). A fabulous view !
La Mer de Glace
Accessible from la Gare du Montenvers : a quick ascent by rack-railway.
Close to Chalets Aquarelle.
Follow the trails of the most skillful mountaineers and have an outstanding experience, accompanied by a high mountain guide.
Mont Blanc tramway
It is one of the most ancient lifts and the highest rack-railway in France, which takes you to Les Houches and its snowshoeing trails.
Les Grands Montets
An outstanding playground for good skiiers and powder champs ! An Unlimited skipass is compulsory.
Le téléphérique du Brevent and the cable cars of Planpraz
Take one of these lifts to enjoy a view of the Mont-Blanc and l'Aiguille du Midi. A fine itinerary which will allow you to take nice pictures.
